In Aubrac - July 2019

On our way to Aubrac, we make a stop in Millau, we have always wanted to see the famous viaduc. We stay in the city of Millau in a newly renovated hotel: The Couvent de la Salette. We love this unique place, highly recommended.

There is a lot to see and do in Millau! Pierre experiences for the first time Paragliding and can admire the views of Millau and the Viaduc from way up in the sky. Amazing…

We drive to the Cevennes National Park. The plateau of the Causse Méjean is pure wilderness with huge expenses and endless views. It is so gorgeous and peaceful…..

In Hures La Parade, we saw from afar these wild horses: The Przewalski's horses or Takh. They are the ancestors of today's domestic horses. As a species, they were never domesticated and are the world's last truly wild horses.

Driving through charming villages such as Meyrueis

After a tasty lunch in Sainte Enimie, we head back to Millau through Les Gorges du Tarn, very special!

Finally on our way to meet Véronique and Michel D., we stop to visit the famous Millau Viaduc, an amazing (and very impressive) European realization. French Engineering (Michel Virlogeux) + British Design (Sir Norman Foster) = A Marvel of Human Ingenuity! - Too bad for Brexit!

With a quick stop in St Côme d’Olt, another gorgeous village like so many in France….

We arrive in Estaing where we meet Véronique et Michel. Our summer hike in Aubrac starts here!

A week-long hiking trough the Aubrac makes us realize how beautiful and diverse the French countryside is. No need to fly to the other end of the planet… so much to see here in the center of our homeland.

The Village of Conques, one of the “Grands Sites de Midi-Pyrénées”, is our favorite stop. The Abbey Church of Sainte-Foy in Conques was a popular stop for pilgrims on the Camino de Santiago on their way to Santiago de Compostela in Spain. The main draw for medieval pilgrims at Conques were the remains of Saint Faith ("Sainte-Foy"), a martyred young woman from the fourth century. Since 1994, a public order has allowed Conques abbey-church to obtain contemporary art glass windows made by Pierre Soulages.

Other highlights include the villages of Campuac, Espeyrac, Sénergues and Nasbinal.

Few days to rest at the end of our hike at La Borie de l'Aubrac, a perfect spot to unwind and discover the surroundings in the center of the Aubrac region. A last group photo before returning to our lives.
