Paris. July 20, 2018
Pierre’s mother became quite sick at the beginning of the summer and had to spent several weeks in the hospital, his dad who had recently suffered from a stroke was very disorientated being by himself… Faced with this new reality, they decided that it was time for them to make plans to move to a senior living facility. We made ourselves available late July and early August to organise the move, install and decorate their new apartment in Courbevoie on the outskirt of Paris. (Footnote for the readers: They are both doing well today and love their new apartment.)
Thanks to our friends Marie-Claude and Bernard P. who let us use their beautiful apartment at the foot of the Eiffel Tower, it made our task much easier! Anywhere we looked, we could see and admire “La Grande Dame”.
Isabelle’s brother, J-L and his wife invited us for a very refined, calm and delicious lunch at La Reserve: A new hotel designed by Jacques Garcia and located avenue Gabriel close to where Isabelle grew up, 11 Bis rue du Cirque.
Paris in August is wonderfully empty! Sharing the city only with happy tourists is a special treat! On the “Special” chapter, we must report on an amazing dinner at Le Rigmarole. The menu is a combination of dishes inspired by French-American chef Robert Compagnon’s obsession with Japan - his wife is Japanese! Robert is a very talented chef who has mastered the Japanese ways of preparing grilled meats and seafood, blending them with handmade pastas (that would make any Italian applaud) and beautiful (often tempura fried) vegetables. Not to mention, stunning desserts to close. We had met Robert in Hanoï last year, he is the son of very good friends of Ann P. This is how we became aware of this unique restaurant we highly recommend. And if you need further reinforcement here is a recent write-up in Le Monde.
On Isabelle’s birthday, we had drinks and nibbles at Bar Joséphine, in the newly renovated Hotel Lutetia. Gorgeous place - ideal for a date night in Paris!
