Château La Coste. September 1, 2016

Château La Coste, located near Aix-en-Provence, is an exquisite and unique place we absolutely loved and highly recommend to visit.  We drove from Marseille for the day with Pierre's sister, Christine, to enjoy this wonderful experience.

It is all about Wine, Art & Architecture and Food......

The two center elements of Château La Coste are the Tadao Ando Art Centre and the wine making Chai designed by the French architect Jean Novel.

After a guided tour of the "High Tech" wine making Chai and a nice lunch at The Terrace, we went on the Art & Architecture Walk: a 2 hours walk to discover the beauty of Provence's hilltops and valleys, alongside olive groves and wine fields living in harmony with many installations of contemporary art designed by well known artists and architects - below Richard Serra in front and Frank Gehry in the back of the photo overlooking the vineyards.

Over the water pools surrounding the Art Center designed by Tadao Ando, you can contemplate  a sculpture from Hiroshi Sugimoto named "Infinity" - a surface of revolution with constant negative curvature (2010) and the "Crouching Spider" created by Louise Bourgeois in 2003 and installed at Château La Coste in 2011, two days before the artist's death.

Christine and Pierre are marching forward trough the vineyard, is Isabelle cheating and riding a fox? - Foxes is a group of fox sculptures by Michael Stipe, REM's lyricist and lead singer.

Amazing installations include amount others (in order of presentation below), Pavillion of Musique from Frank O. Gehry (2008), Drop from Tom Shannon (2009), Calix Meus Inebrians from Guggi (2009), Banc en Origami from Tadao Ando (2011), Meditation Bell from Paul Matisse - grandson of Henri Matisse (2012), Multiplied Resistance Screened from Liam Gillick (2010), Chapelle from Tadao Ando (2011) and Wall of Light Cubed from Sean Scully (2007).

But the real star of the show is The Wine itself crafted under the leadership of the Wine Maker, Matthieu Cosse, in the state of the art wine making Chai.
