Chamonix. August 14, 2016
One night of luxury, we stayed at the Hameau Albert 1er. A very authentic place, a completely redone hotel with amazing views of the Mont-Blanc right from our room. Too bad it was only for one night!
Great dinner: Fondue Savoyarde oblige!
Early wake-up to catch a 7h30 cable car to l'Aiguille du Midi summit. An impressive ride from 1,000 meters to 3,850 meters - 9,200 feet in 10 minutes - where we can contemplate the sun rise over a breathtaking panorama of the French, Italian and Swiss Alps. We are very lucky and enjoy a perfect weather.
While the Matterhorn can easily claim the tittle of the most beautiful mountain, the Mont-Blanc mountain chain is definitely Europe's most impressive mountain range. Grandiose!
From L'aiguille du Midi, we took another cable car ride flying over the Mer de Glace, the Mont-Blanc glacier. We are breathless!
Back down in Chamonix, our luck continues: we walk through town right on time to watch the August 15th traditional Mountain Guides parade.
Our visit to Chamonix was quick (24 hours) but packed with amazing views and wonderful experiences in this European Center of Mountainering!
It is time to take the road direction: Bordighera, Italy.
