The Treachery of Images
Pierre met Michel et Veronique D. in front of Beaubourg to see a fascinating exhibit on René Magritte : "La Trahison des Images" while Isabelle was meeting a friend/client on an interior design project.
Until January 23rd 2017, the Centre Pompidou is devoting a thematic exhibition to the work of the Belgian artist René Magritte. This exhibition reinterprets the entire work of the artist in the light of five “figures” to which Magritte made constant reference in his work: fire, shadows, curtains, words and the fragmented body.
Ceci n'est pas Magritte!
Magritte started the painting "Les Vacances de Hegel" with a question in mind: How to show a glass of water in a painting so it would not be inconsequential but rather, let say without false modesty, painted with genius?
René Magritte has devoted part of his work on what he called - The solution of problem. In this work, Magritte was concerned to depict the relationship of objects in some way logically connected. The egg and the bird for example...
Magritte's work often blurs the lines between reality and imagination in a way that gets your mind spinning....
Magritte once said in an interview: It is obvious that the image of a pipe is not a pipe - that might be self-evident - but could very well be a shock to people who aren't aware of it.
No matter how thoughts-provocating his work was, Magritte has always depicted his paintings with great esthetically integrity.
But Magritte most self-defining talent is probably his unique ability "to put in question what you see"
